Tyndale effect is the dispersion of light due to the presence of small particles, small enough so that they can not be spotted by naked eye.

These small particles hinder the passage of light through the sample and that is why light gets dispersed.

Such particles are available in colloidal solution and that is one way to characterize the given mixture as a colloid.

If light is passed through a solution or suspension, then no Tyndall effect will be observed but in case of colloid, there will be Tyndall effect.
