therefore, the l of rectangle formed= x

and its b=x/2. (since it is divided into two halves)

and, p of a rectangle= 2(l+b) ,i.e. here= 12cm

therefore, 2(l+b)=12

=2(x+x/2)= 12

= 2x+x= 12

= 3x=12

or x=4cm

therefore, each side of square= x= 12cm

hence, area= x*x= 12*12= 144cm
