Part A

The painting is showing a war that led to the fall of the Byzantine Empire in 1453. It is taking place at the capital Constantinople. In the picture we see the walls of the city being defended by the Byzantine army, however they cannot keep the Ottoman army away. The Ottomans go over the wall and take over the city. We see them coming into the city  by boat. The failure at Constantinople implied  the "end of the Byzantine Empire" after a  1000 year reign.

Explanation:

  • The "fall of Constantinople", by "Sultan Mehmet II" of the Ottoman Empire, was the invasion of Constantinople. When the Ottomans broke the old land wall of Constantinople, after they besieged the town for 55 days, the shrinking Byzantine empire finally ended.
  • While using a "cannon to maintain a constant barrage" of the "formidable city walls", Mehmed surrounded "Constantinople" from land and water. With the fall of the city, Christian Europe's once "powerful defense" against Muslim invasion was removed and "Ottoman expansion" into "eastern Europe" was uninterrupted.

Part B

  • Justinian 's efforts to reunify the Byzantine empire shortened the empire's financial efforts ( that is the empire had fallen short of all its financial endeavours) and weakened the Empire's veracity.
  • The forces besieging the Byzantine Empire had compelled the Byzantine Empire to shrink and in fact turn their own people back on "Byzantium". Byzantium tried to utilise the crusades to frighten the other nations enough to to keep them alone.
  • The Macedonian Empire had elevated the Byzantine Empire and made it well-known to other nations, as well as a nation that was well-respected and highly influential.
  • As the Byzantine Empire realised that they almost did not exist, it asked for help from other nations. Constantinople has decided to support Byzantium and to carry out various crusades. Sadly, just a few crusades were effective, leading to the downfall of the Byzantine Empire
  • When it came to the Mediterranean trade, Venice was much superior. There were conflicts between the Byzantine Empire & Venice. They are prepared to help one another, but two wars have occurred because of a failed Treaty. Venice tried to contribute in the retention of Byzantium during the Crusades during the "Fall of the Byzantine Empire". The Ottoman Turks ultimately succeeded in taking the Byzantine Empire over and overthrow.
