•Methane is the first member of the alkane series. it is also called Marsh Had. The chemical formula of methane is CH4. And methane is a simple hydrocarbon.

The reaction of the methane are:-

1. In the presence of U V light, chlorine reacts with methane with an explosion to form carbon and hydrogen chloride

2. When methane is treated with steam in the presence of nickel catalyst, carbon monoxide and hydrogen are formed.

3. When methane is burnt in a limited supply of air, carbon black is produced.

When methane reacts with carbon, the condensation reaction happens.
