Take teacher help to make a working model of hope's apparatus and perform the experiment verify the results you obtain
Answers
"1. Hope's apparatus is used to study the anomalous heat expansion of water. It consists of a "long cylindrical" metallic jar fitted with two thermometers.
2. Freezing mixture is "added" to the centre of the trough in the cylinder.
3. Due to the convection and resultant change in volume and density of water, the temperature of water at the cylinder centre reduces continuously but the temperature at the bottom remains the same at 4℃.
4. Due to this continuous decrease in temperature, a layer of ice is formed at the upper surface.
5. This proves that the "maximum density" of water remains at 4℃. This also explains how water bodies get cooled faster on the upper layer than the bottom layer during the winter season. This helps the aquatic organisms to survive in the warm underwater even in winter season."
