The reaction in which oxygen is being added and the hydrogen is removed is known as oxidation process.
And the reaction in which oxygen is being removed and hydrogen is being added is known as reduction process.
Therefore, ZnO + C -> Zn + CO
In this reaction both reduction and oxidation takes place together side by side.
