There were several reasons behind Tamils feeling alienated in Sri Lanka.
1. Buddhism was promoted as official religion
2. Sinhala was made the official language
3. Sinhala were prefered over Tamils for govt posts and applicants in Universities
4. Govt followed the policy of Majoritarianism
All this led to the organisation of Tamils into parties and a civil war broke out led by LTTE from Tamil side.
