Given that  → tan x + cot x = 2  Now,  tan 2 x + cot 2 x = ( tan x + cot x ) 2 − 2 ⋅ tan x ⋅ cot x  = 2 2 − 2 ⋅ tan x ⋅ 1 tan x = 4 − 2 = 2
