Tan theta = 3/4 then

by pythagoras theorem

AC ^2 = AB^2 + BC^2

AC = 5

cos^2 theta - sin^2 theta =

=

(4/5)^2 - (3/5)^2

= 16/25 - 9/25

= 7/25
