Given :

  • Money spent on pen = Rs 27/2
  • Money spent on book = Rs 53/3
  • Money spent on ice cream = Rs 61/4

To Find :

  • Total money spent by Tanya

Solution :

Total money spent will be given by addition of all the amount spent whether on pen , book or ice cream.

For adding the amounts we have to make the denominator same. So, we take LCM (Lowest Common Factor) of the denominator to make them same.

LCM of 2 , 3 and 4 :

2 | 2 , 3 , 4

2 | 1 , 3 , 2

3 | 1 , 3 , 1

| 1 , 1 , 1

⛬ LCM of 2 , 3 and 4 = 2 × 2 × 3 = 12

Making the Fraction same :

⠀⟶⠀Money spent on pen = Rs 27/2

⠀⟶⠀Money spent on pen = 27 × 6/2 × 6

⠀⟶⠀Money spent on pen = Rs 162/12

⠀⟶⠀Money spent on book = Rs 53/3

⠀⟶⠀Money spent on book = 53 × 4/3 × 4

⠀⟶⠀Money spent on book = Rs 212/12

⠀⟶⠀Money spent on ice cream = Rs 61/4

⠀⟶⠀Money spent on ic = 61 × 3/4 × 3

⟶⠀Money spent on ic = Rs 183/12

Money spent in total :

⠀⟶⠀162/12 + 212/12 + 183/12 = Total Money

⠀⟶⠀162 + 212 + 183/12 = Total Money

⠀⟶⠀374 + 183/12 = Total Money

⠀⟶⠀557/12 = Total Money

⠀⟶⠀46.41 = Total Money

⛬ Total Money spent by Tanya is Rs 557/12 or Rs 56.41
