Given:

Time taken by Tap A = 6 mins

Time taken by Tap B = 12 mins

To find:

How much time would it take to fill the tank if both the taps are opened together?

Solution:

Tap A's one min work = 1/6

Tap B's one min work = 1/12

Therefore,

Tap ( A + B)'s one minute work = 1/6 + 1/12

Solving -

=  1/6 + 1/12

= 2 + 1 / 12

= 3/12

= 1/4

Answer: The time required to fill the tank when both the taps are open  is 4 minutes.
