Tap A:

5 mins = 8 pails

1 min = 8 ÷ 5 = 1.6 pails

Tap B:

4 mins = 7 pails

1 min = 7 ÷ 4 = 1.75 pails

Tap A + Tap:

1 min = 1.6 + 1.75 = 3.35 pails

Find the number of mins needed to fill 16 pails:

3.35 pails = 1 min

1 pail = 1 ÷ 3.35 = 20/67 mins

16 pails= 20/67 x 16 = 4.78 mins = 4 mins 47 seconds.

Answer: It will take 4 mins 47 seconds for both taps to fill up the 16 pails
