Tap A fill the tank in 16 hours
portion of the tank filled
by tap A in 1 hour = 1/16 ---( 1 )
Tap B empty the tank in 20 hours
portion of the tank emptied
by tap B in 1 hour = 1/20 ----( 2 )
If both taps are open together portion
tank filled by hour = ( 1 ) - ( 2 )
= 1/16 - 1/20
= ( 5 - 4 ) / 80
= 1/80
Therefore ,
Both taps A and B opened together
the tank can be filled in 80 hours.
