in 1 hour tap a fills 1/6
in 1 hour tap b empties 1/8th of the tank
thus if tap a is opened at 9 it fills 2/6 by 11
after 11 tank is filed at a rate of 1/6 per hour and emptied at a rate of 1/8 and therefore filed at a rate of 1/6-1/8=1/24
so to fill 4/6 of the tank at the rate of 1/24 it takes 16 hours and will be files by 3am in the morning next day
in 1 hour tap b empties 1/8th of the tank
