Solution :

time required by A to fill the tank = 3 hours

⇒ tank filled in one hour = 1/3

time required by B to fill the tank = 6 hours

⇒ tank filled in one hour = 1/6

so, the total part of the tank filled in 1 hour, if both taps are turned on :

⇒ 1/6 + 1/3

⇒ 1/6 + 2/6

⇒ 3/6

⇒ 1/2

so, we got that the tank is filled by half in 1 hour if both taps are turned on. So, the time required to fill full tank :

⇒ time = 1×2

⇒ time = 2 hours

so, it takes 2 hours to fill the tank if both taps are turned on.
