Distance travelled d = speed s x time t

1st part of journey: d = st = 80 x (1/4) = 20 km

2nd part of journey: d = st = 40 x (1/4) = 10 km

Average Speed = Total distance d/Total time taken t = 30/((1/4)+(1/4)) = 30/(1/2) = 60 km/h.

  1. speed increased 25 per cent =25/100×40=10 km/h is increased
  2. new speed =50 km
  3. time =distance travelled in first speed /50 km
  4. 3600/50= 72 mins =1 hrs 12mins
