Find the total cost price:

1 chair = Rs 200

40 chairs = 200 x 40 = Rs 8000

Find the total selling price:

He sold 36 chairs only

1 chair = Rs 240

36 chairs = 240 x 36 = Rs 8640

Find the profit / loss:

Since Selling Price > Cost Price ⇒ It is a profit

Profit = 8640 - 8000 = Rs 640

Answer: His profit is Rs 640

Here is your solution

Total cost price :-

Bought 40 chairs at the rate of rs.200

=> Total cost of 40 chairs
40 × 200 = 8000 rupees

After using 4 chair

left chair = 40-4=36 chair

Total selling price :-

36 chair sold at rate of 240

=>Total cost of 36 chair
240×36=8640Rupees

Here
selling price >cost price so it profit

profit = Sp-cp

profit = 8640-800

profit = 640 rupees
