Tarun read 3/8 of a book on one day and 4/5of the reminder another day.if there are 30 pages unread then how many pages did the book contain

Let the total number of pages be 'x'

3/8x on first day

Remaining = [8x - 3x]/8 = 5/8x

4/5 of 5/8x = 1/2x

3/8x + 1/2x + 30 = x
7/8x - x = -30
- 1/8x = -30
x = 240

So required answer is 240 pages.
