Step-by-step explanation:

let the fixed charge =x

variable charge =y

In first case

x+60y=960(eq.1)

in 2nd case

x+80y=1260 (eq 2.)

from eq. 1st and 2nd

x+60y=960 -(x+80y=1260)

=-20y= -300

y=15

x+60y=960

x+60×15=960

x+900=960

x=60

SOLUTION:-

Let the fixed charges be Rs X and the other charges be Rs Y per kilometre .

Then

x+60y=960............(1)

And

x+80y=1200...............(2)

On subtracting (i) from (ii)

We get ,

20y=300

y= 300/20

y= 15

Putting y= 15 in eq(i)

we get

x+(60×15)=960

x= 960-900

x= 60

Hence, fixed charges = Rs. 60 and the rate per km = Rs. 15 km .
