Given :

Tailor has 5 yards of gold ribbon for decorating dresses

Tailor has to decorate 8 dresses for school play

To Find : Length of ribbon used to decorate each dress by tailor.

Solution :

•As length of ribbon to be used is same for each dress

•therefore , let length of ribbon used for one dress is x yards

•length of ribbon used for 8 dresses will be 8x

•Now , length of ribbon available is 5 yards

•So, length of ribbon used = length of ribbon available

8x = 5

x = 5/8 yards

or

x = 0.625 yards

•Length of ribbon used by tailor for decorating each costume is 0.625 yards
