Active Voice refers to a sentence in which the subject is performing the action.
Passive Voice refers to a sentence in which the subject undergoes the action. In other words, it is writing the sentence in reverse order.
Example: Jaxon is doing the laundry. (Active)
The laundry is being done by Jaxon. (Passive)
NOTE: Sentences that convey habitual actions cannot be changed to passive mode.
General rules:
- The place of the subject and the object changes in the sentence.
- The past participle/3rd form of the verb is used when writing a sentence in passive form.
- 'By' is used before the doer of the action.
General tense changes in voice changing:
- Present Tense:
Active - Subject + verb + s, es, ies + object.
Passive - Object + is/are + ast participle/3rd form of the verb + by + subject.
- Past Tense:
Active - Subject + past tense form of the verb + object.
Passive - Object + was/were + past participle/3rd for of the verb + by + subject.
- Future Tense:
Active - Subject + shall/will + verb + object.
Passive - Object + shall/will + be + past participle/3rd form of the verb + by + subject.
