It evaporates by taking the large amount of latent heat from the roof  and surrounding air.  When water at room temperature is sprinkled on a hot surface, the heat flow from surface to water molecules takes place, which leads to vaporization of water. This causes a cooling effect.

because when we sprinkle the water on the sun the water evaporates and thus we know that evaporation causes cooling then it can give us cool effect

that's the reason that the teacher has told you to sprinkle the water on roof or on ground.....
