Techniques to develop hyv of plants
Answers
High-yielding varieties of agricultural crops are usually characterized by a combination of the following traits in contrast to the conventional varieties: higher crop yield per area (hectare) dwarfness. improved response to fertilizers. high reliance on irrigation and fertilizers. The produce from these seeds is a bit more compared to the normal ones. These seeds are a better option of seeds in order to obtain a healthy and surplus crop.
"Genetically modified food (GM), High Yield Variety (HYV) seeds were developed by scientists to improve the food supplies and reduce famine in developing countries.
These HYV or 'miracle' seeds can produce up to ten times more crops than regular seeds on the same area of land. This Ensures there is constant supply of food produced in the countries worldwide.
HYV seeds yield more under irrigated conditions. However, the crop demands controlled irrigation. These crop should be irrigated at right time as per the schedule and in right quantity. Most of the HYV seeds are dwarf varieties. They need higher doses of fertilizer. HYV crops are highly susceptible to pests. Right quantity of pesticides to be used to overcome this problem.
