Ted and Alexis were carrying books up the stairs. Alexis said 'Not fair, Ted! I have thrice as many books as you do'. Ted said, 'Fine! Give me ten more books from the books you have!'. Alexis said, 'Still not good! you have twice as many as ma now.' How many books must ted give Alexis so that they have the same number of books?

Answer:

The answer is 4

Step-by-step explanation:

Its simple maths

Let ted have x number of books , then , alexis will have 3x

But is alexis gives ted 10 books , then ted will now have 2x more books than alexis , forming a equation==>

\frac{3x}{x} is original

after 10 books are given to ted ,

\frac{3x-10}{x+10}   =  \frac{x}{2x}

==> 6x-20=x+10

==> 5x = 30

==> x=6 books

so originally alexis had 18 books ( 3 into x) and ted had 6 books ( x)

Now alexis has 8 books ( 3x-10 ) and ted has 16 books ( x+10)

So to make number of books equal , Ted must give 4 books to Alexis

hope it helped fellow Vedantu mate
