Teerut Singh Syiem, was the chief of the Khasi people in the early 19th century. He drew his lineage from the Syiemlieh clan. He was Syiem of Nongkhlaw, part of the Khasi Hills.
Syiem was the leader of the Revolt of Khasis of Assam. He massacred the British generals and their Indian Sepoys. Teerut however surrendered on the 13th of January, 1833. March, Teerut Singh died in 1834.

Tirot Sing declared war and fought against British for attempts to take over control of the Khasi Hills. He died on 17 July 1835. His death is commemorated in Meghalaya as U Tirot Sing Day.
