Telescopic suspension is also a type of hydraulic suspension system with internal coils. It is majorly used for motorcycle or sometimes buggy applications, where it is highly successful due to its weight and capability to absorb.
Telescopic forks are in general filled with oil. But telescopic forks are also being made. What it basically does is, it cuts the rest of the vehicle from point and all the it’s energy is absorbed by the forks only, thus lengthening the life of various parts. Here forks are a better option as air (gas) is compressible, thus the energy absorbed also goes into compressing the air, making the ride more smooth. Here the pressure of the air inside can be changed according to the requirement of softer suspensions. These can arranged in a simple or upside down (USD) manner.
Hydraulic suspension are preferred for heavier applications like a car or even tanks use them(hydropneumatic suspensions). And for applications where a firmer ride is required( for racing applications). These suspensions have four dampers with four springs, each moving independently. Working is similar to that of telescopic forks, just used here with cars. Its an independent type of suspension.
Thus, both of these have different applications. One can't simply replace the other.
