The Constitution provides the citizens of India with seven Fundamental Rights to ensure that the citizens enjoy a free, democratic environment to live in.



RIGHT TO EQUALITY

Every citizens of India will be treated equally and no one will be discriminated on the basis of caste, creed, sex, place of birth and religion. Every citizen is entitled to equal opportunities. However, the Constitution has certain reservations for the weaker sections ot society, like the Scheduled Castes and Tribes, in educational institutions, certain government examinations and jobs. In order to maintain equality, the system of giving titles has now been abolished. Also, untouchability has been abolished and its practice in any form is forbidden and punished by law.


RIGHT TO FREEDOM

The Rights to Freedom incorporates within it the following.

• The right to think and express freely.

• The right to assemble peacefully, without violence.

• The right to form associations and unions.

• The right to live and move about freely within the country.

• The right to practice any profession, or to carry out any occupation or business.



CULTURAL and EDUCATIONAL RIGHTS

Every citizen of India has the right to follow his or her culture, customs, traditions, script and language. They have the right to establish and administer educational institutions of their choice.


RIGHT TO FREEDOM of RELIGION

Every citizen has the right to choose and practice the religion of his or her choice.


RIGHT AGAINST EXPLOITATION

This right citizens of the country against any kind of exploitation, forced labour, slavery, begging and human trafficking. This right protects children against child labour. No child under the age of 14 can be employed.

RIGHT TO CONSTITUTIONAL REMEDIES

Every citizen of the country is allowed to stand up in defense of their rights; even against the Indian Government. Citizens can take their grievances right up to the level of the Supreme Court, the highest protector of law in India.


RIGHT TO EDUCATION

The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) came into force on 1 April 2010.

Right to equality Men and women are equal in the eyes of the law. No person can be treated unfairly because of the place of birth ,caste or relegion .
Right to freedom The citizens have freedom of speech and expression.They can practise any trade and settle in any part of the country.

Right against exploitation Citizens have the right to against exploitation such as bonded labour or child labour
 
Right to freedom of religion Citizens have the right to practise any religion they want

Right to education Children under age of 6 to 14 years should have compulsary education

Right to constitutional remedy A citizen can ask for justice in a court if he feels his rights have been denied

Culture and educational rights Christians and muslims have the right to set up their own centres of worship
