Guru Tegh Bahadur (Gurmukhi: ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇਗ ਬਹਾਦਰ, pronunciation: (Punjabi:]; 21 April 1621 – 24 November 1675)[5][6] was the ninth of ten Gurus who founded the Sikh religion and the leader of Sikhs from 1665 until his beheading in 1675. He was born in Amritsar, Punjab, India in 1621 and was the youngest son of Guru Hargobind Sahib, the sixth Sikh guru. Considered a principled and fearless warrior, he was a learned spiritual scholar and poet whose 115 hymns are included in Sri Guru Granth Sahib, the main text of Sikhism.
guru teg bahadur sahib ji is the ninth guru of the sikhs. he was the youngest son of guru hargobind sahib ji. he was born on april 1st, 1621 at amritsar . his mother was bibi Nankiji . his birth name was tyag mal but keeping in view his courage and bravery , he was named tegh bahadur .
guru tegh bahadur ji was trained in martial arts , swordship and horse riding . but despite being a fighter in different battles ,he seemed to chose a path of renunciation and meditation .he meditated at bakala village for almost 20 years and lived there with his wife mata gujaui ji and mother mata namaki ji . bhai makhan shah lobana, a rich businessman ,revealed him at bakala .guru tegh bahadur ji received guruship on march 30th,1664 when he was living at baba bakala. guru tegh bahadur ji travelled far and wide visiting many places in northern india and also assam and dhaka .he started community water wells and langars(community kitchen) for the poor and hungry.he founded the city of anandpur sahib in punjab in 1665. he composed many hymns that were
added to guru granth sahib. he wrote the saloks , 116 shabads and 15 ragas while the sikh faith was gathering strength aurangzeb was following a policy of religions discrimination and persecution in many places . tegh bahadur ji was brought before the emperor when he reached delhi .
GURU ji simply refused to fulfil the emperor's demand .
the emperor gave guru ji three options
1: TO EMBRACE ISLAMS
2: TO PERFORM MIRACLES
3: BE READY FOR DEATH
Finally , the guruji preferred the latter his head was chopped off publicly at chandni chowk in delhi on november 11th 1675 later gurud ware . sis ganj sahib was built in 1783 at the place where he was beheaded . his son gobind who was only nine when his father was killed become the tenth and the last guru of sikh . guru gobind singh went on to become the founder of the khalsa and challenged the authority of the mughals.
