The soils of Telangana are mainly red, black, lateritic and alluvial.

Red soil: Red soil is found around 48% in Telangana. It is mostly found in Mahabubnagar, Nalgonda, Karimnagar, Khammam, Rangareddy, Nizamabad districts and very less in Adilabad district. Red soil is suitable for raising groundnut.

Black soil: Black soils account for 25% of Telangana. These soils are very much suitable for cotton. Water holding capacity of these soils is high. These soils are found in Adilabad, Rangareddy, Nizamabad districts.

Laterite soil: Laterite soils covers 7% of the area. These are found in Medak and Khammam districts.

Alluvial soil: These are rich in humas and very fertile.
