Atal Bihari Vajpayee (December 25, 194 - August 16, 2018) was the tenth Prime Minister of India . He was previously the Prime Minister of India from 16th May to 1 June 1996, and from 19th March 1998 to 22nd May 2004. [1] He was a Hindi poet, journalist and a strong speaker. [2] He was one of the founders of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh , and was its president from 1968 to 1973 . He also edited many letters and journals with national sentiments of nationalism , Panchjanya and Veer Arjun etc. for a long time . Vajpayee, who started his life as a staunch advocate for life as an RSS pracharakThe National Democratic Alliance (NDA) was the first Prime Minister of the government, who completed five years of non-Congress Prime Minister's post without any problem. He formed a government from a coalition of 24 parties, which had 81 ministers.Since 2005, he had retired from politics and lived in a government house located 6-A Krishna Menon Road in New Delhi . [3] After a prolonged illness on August 16, 2018 , Shri Vajpayee passed away in All India Institute of Medical Sciences , Delhi. He has been active in Indian politics throughout . Vajpayee remained a graduate throughout his life. He has adopted Namita Bhattacharya, daughter of longtime friend Princess Kaul and BN Kaul. His own family lived with him.

Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee the iconic leader of BJP is the first Non-National Congress person who was sworn in as the Prime Minister of India for a complete 5-year term (1998-2004). The 10th PM of India served as a Prime minister for 13 days in 1996. Apart from Prime minister he served as the minister of external affairs, elected to the Lok Shaba for ten times, represented Rajya Shaba twice and served as the Member of Parliament for Lucknow, UP. He retired from active politics in the year 2009 due to health concerns.  

India’s highest civilian honor “Bharat Ratna” was awarded to him on Mach 27 2015 at his residence by the President of India.  In the year 2014, the government of India declared his birthday 25th  December as the “Good Governance Day”. At the age of 93 (25 December 1924 – 16 August 2018), he died due to prolonged illness.
