The blue umbrella by Ruskin bond is famous story. It features Binya as the main character. Binya is eleven year old and she lives in the hill of Gharwal. Her full name is Binya devi and her elder brother's name is Bijju. Binya loves wandering over mountains. She is not afaraid of anything like darkness, forests etc. She can climb trees very well. She loves freedom, infact sometimes she seems lost in herself. One day she meets few picnickers from city. She notices their different lifestyles. Somehow the picnickers gets impressed by Binya and gift her a Blue Umbrella.
She loved the umbrella a lot. She even kept it open inside her house and would use to take with her whenever she would go for a walk. One day, while she takes her umbrella with her. She feels asleep beneath the tree,and her umbrella flies away with wind. She tries to catch it but she could not. At the end she finally finds out the umbrella stuck at the cherry tree and tries to remove it from there and finally gets it back.
This shows that though Binya was an ordinary girl but her kind and fearful heart even her boldness made her stand out of the crowd.
