Marasmus is a form of severe malnutrition characterized by energy deficiency. It can occur in anyone with severe malnutrition but usually occurs in children. Protein wasting inkwashiorkor generally leads to edema and ascites, while muscular wasting and loss of subcutaneous fat are the main clinical signs of marasmus.

marasmus is the disease in children of 1 to 12 months of age due to the deficiency of protein and calorie in diet .it is also called protein calorie malnutrition. the symptoms include growth retardation ,muscle wasted eyeball enters within the cavity, skin becomes dry and folded, ribs become very prominent ,immunity is reduced, body seems to be made of bone and skin only so looks like old.
