A verb that combines with another work to indicate mood or tense is called a modal. A modal is an auxiliary or helping verb used to express necessity, uncertainty, ability, past habit or permission. For example, can, could ,may, might, must ,shall, will ,should and would.

these are the part of grammar so very easy but little confusing. they are generally used with another verbs o show possibility,probability etc
eg are- can, could, might etc
