Answer :

Parathyroid gland :-

  • There four parathyroid glands present backside of thyroid gland.
  • There is presence of one pair of parathyroid gland at each lobe of thyroid gland.
  • They secrete peptide hormone which is called parathyroid hormone.
  • The secretion of parathyroid hormone is regulated by the circulating levels of calcium ions.
  • The parathyroid hormone helps in increasing the calcium ion level in the blood.
  • It stimulates bone dissolution and dimineralization.
  • It also reabsorbs calcium ions by renal tubules and can also increase calcium absorption from the digested food.
  • The parathyroid hormone can be called as hypercalcemic hormone.
  • Along with thyrocalcitonin which is secreted by thyroid gland, the parathyroid hormone helps in maintaining the calcium balance in the body.
