It is a chemical reaction in which acid and a base react quantitatively with each other. In a reaction in water, neutralization results in there being no excess of hydrogen or hydroxide ions present in the solution.

They cancel each other out and make the substance neutral.

One example is one of the things that we do everyday that is brushing your teeth. Our mouth contains a lot of acids which is caused by the bacteria in our mouth. The toothpaste that we use is a base which neutralises the acid.
