• they have large basins
• carry more load
• eg - Ganga , Brahmaputra

Peninsular rivers

• these are seasonal in nature
• these are only fed by rain
• they originate from springs
• they have comparatively smaller basins
• they carry less load
• eg - Tapi , Godaveri
