elements in modern periodic table follow periodicity, I. e., the similar properties of elements are repeated after a fixed interval, after fixed no. of elements, elements have similar properties.

all the elements of same group have similar properties because elements of Same group
have same no. of valence electrons. the properties of elements depend upon their valence electrons.

tendency of elements to gain electrons

increase on moving from left to right in a period this is because the number of Valence Electrons increase from left to right in a period the elements with less number of Valence Electrons have more tendency to lose electrons than to gain them to attain stability

Periodicity is defined as the repetition in the properties of elements at regular intervals.

Elements in the same group have similar properties because they have the same number of electrons in the valence shell of the atom.

The tendency to gain electrons increases as we move from left to right because of the decrease in atomic radius and increase in effective nuclear charge.
