Use correct tense form:

  • After five years, he came back home.

Simple Past tense:

Subject + second form of verb

The simple past is used to express that something was done or took place in the past, or to express habitual action, or to express an action actually going on at the time stated.

  • It has been raining since morning.

Present Perfect Continuous tense:

Subject + has/have + been + first form of verb + ing + since/for

The present perfect continuous shows that action that began in the past is continuing up to the present time.

  • If she had attended the exam she would have succeeded.

Past Perfect tense:

Subject + had + third form of verb

  • I had never gone to Ooty.

Past Perfect tense:

Subject + had + third form of verb

  • the train had left when I reached the station.

Past Perfect tense:

Subject + had + third form of verb

The past perfect is used to generate an action which had been completed at some point in the past time before another action was commenced.
