She then saved sixty paise for the ride, thriftily saving every stray coin that came her way, resisting the temptation to buy peppermints, toys, balloons and the like, even resolutely stifling a desire to ride the merry go round at the fair, inspite of having the money. She then had to plan how to escape without being unnoticed. She planned to take the afternoon bus at one o'clock and thought that she would be back home by around two forty five. Her mother usually took an afternoon nap from one to four, and these hours which she usually used to stand at the doorway and venture into the village, could be used to sneak out for the bus ride. In this way she planned her bus ride.
