Hello
limitations of Bernoulli theorem

Bernoulli’s equation comes with the assumption that every particle across the cross section of the pipe is uniform which is not correct → See Hagen-Poiseuille flow (HPF) profile or Couette profile. In fact we see that the velocity decreases towards the wall (speaking of the HPF) until we reach the no-slip condition at the wall where the velocity is 0.
Visous drag of the liquid has not been taken into account. The viscous drag comes into play, when a liquid is in motion. (Also part of the paper I posted at the end of this post)
Derivation is based on the assumption that there appears no loss of energy, when a liquid is in motion. In fact, some kinetic energy is converted into heat energy and a part of it is lost due to shear force.
If the liquid is flowing along a curved path, the energy due to centrifugal force should also be taken into consideration. This is the part that plays an important role explaining lift.

limitations of Bernoulli thereom

  • Bernoulli equation has been derived on the assumption that there is no loss of energy due to friction.but in practice, when fluid flow some of the kinetic energy is converted into heat due to the work done against the internal force of friction for viscous force.
  • Bernoulli equation is applicable only to incompressible fluids because it does not take into account by elastic energy of the fluids.
  • Bernouli equation is applicable only to streamline flow of a fluid and not when the first turbulent.
  • Bernoulli equation does not take into consideration the angular momentum of the fluid. so it cannot be applied when the fluid flows along a curved path.
