The five basic types of chemical reactions are combination, decomposition, single-replacement, double-replacement, and combustion. Analyzing the reactants and products of a given reaction will allow you to place it into one of these categories.

1.combination reaction

where 2 reactant just combine together to give single product.

2. A decomposition reaction occurs when one reactant breaks down into two or more products. This can be represented by the general equation: AB → A + B. Examples of decomposition reactions include the breakdown of hydrogen peroxide to water and oxygen, and the breakdown of water to hydrogen and oxygen.

3. All simple metal with acid reactions are single displacement reactions. For example, the reaction between magnesium, Mg, and hydrochloric acid, HCl, forms magnesium chloride, MgCl2, and hydrogen, H2.

4. Double displacement reactions generally take place in aqueous solutions in which the ions precipitate and there is an exchange of ions. For example, on mixing a solution of barium chloride with sodium sulphate, a white precipitate of barium sulphate is immediately formed. These reactions are ionic in nature.

5. Examples of Combustion Reactions

Combustion of methane. CH4(g) + 2 O2(g) → CO2(g) + 2 H2O(g)

Burning of naphthalene. ...

Combustion of ethane. ...

Combustion of butane (commonly found in lighters) ...

Combustion of methanol (also known as wood alcohol) ...

Combustion of propane (used in gas grills, fireplaces, and some cookstoves).

(i) Combination Reaction

⏩ when two or more elements combine together to form a new substance,This reaction is known as combination reaction.

example: a. C+O2-> CO2

(ii) Decomposition Reaction

⏩ The reaction in which a single reactant break down to give simpler products,this reaction is known as Decomposition Reaction.

example: a.H2O-> H+o2

(iii) Displacement Reaction

⏩when a more reactive element displace a less reactive element in its solution and form a compound,These are known as Displacement Reaction.

example:a. Fe +CuSO4->FeSO4

(iv) Double displacement Reaction

⏩The chemical reaction in which an exchange of ions between the reactant .
