Hey there,
x^2+1/x^2=7
Adding 2 both sides, We get
=>(x^2)+(1/x)^2+2=9
=>(x)^2+(1/x)^2+2.x.1/x=9
=>(x+1/x)^2=9
=>(x+1/x)=3 or (x+1/x)=-3.
Again,x^2+1/x^2=7
Subtracting 2 both sides,
=>(x)^2+(1/x)^2-2.x.1/x=7-2=5
=>(x-1/x)^2=5=>(x-1/x)=√5 or -√5.
