Cu is differ from Cu^2 because it has 2 unit of positive charge that mean it donate its 2 electrons..... but in the case of Cu their is no any eletron was donated...

Cu +2 ( Copper with plus 2 charge ) is a cation with 2 positive charge . It has formed by losing 2 electrons.
