when reporting a question the reporting verb must be changed into asked, enquired, wondered, questioned. And the question mark is removed and a full stop is used.  For ex-

Sussie said to Manish, "What are you working on?"

Sussie asked  Manish what he was working on.

We connect the reporting question using if or whether when it is a yes/no question. For example-

The teacher said, "Have you done you homework?"

The teacher asked us whether we had done our homework.
