Answer: Let the length of the cloth be x metres

First day tailor stitched = 1/9 *x

Remaining cloth = x - x/9 = 8x/9

Second day he stitched = 8x/9 *5/8

= 5x/9

He left with 1 metre cloth.

ATQ,

The equation will be:-

x - x/9 - 5x/9 = 1

(9x-x-5x)/9 = 1

3x = 1*9

3x = 9

x = 9/3

x = 3
