1 a^2 + b^2 = a^2 + 2ab + b^2
1 a^2 - b^2 = a^2 - 2ab + b^2
3 a - b = (a - b) (a + b)
4 (x + y) (x + y) (x + y) = x^3 + y^3

and if a + b + c = 0, then a³ + b³ + c³ - 3abc = 0. therefore a³ + b³ + c³ = 3ab
