this law states that when two elements chemically combine to form two or more compound with different composition by weight, then the masses of one element that combines with a fixed mass of the other elements are in the ratio of small whole numbers.

law of multiple proportion state that if two elements form more than one compound then the ratio of masses of second element which combine with a fixed mass of first element will be ratios of small whole numbers
for example-if fixed amount of carbon say 100g will combine with 133g of Oxygen or 266g of Oxygen to produce another the ratio of masses of oxygen combine with 100g carbon is 266/133=2:1 which are ratio of small whole numbers.the oxides formed with have 1or 2 Oxygen atom for each carbon atom .the first oxide will be CO(when 100 g carbon react with 133g of oxygen) and other will be CO2 ( when 100g of carbon react with 266g of oxygen)
