Diwali is called the Festival of Lights and is celebrated to honor Rama-chandra, the seventh avatar (incarnation of the god Vishnu). It is believed that on this day Rama returned to his people after 14 years of exile during which he fought and won a battle against the demons and the demon king, Ravana.

During the celebration, temples, homes, shops and office buildings are brightly illuminated.
We celebrate Diwali by cleaning our house and then decorating it with different things. Mithai's and delicious food items are prepared. We shop for new clothes and accessories. We purchase various gifts for our loved ones, relatives and friends. We light up our houses with diyas, candles and lights. A rangoli is made.

After all these preparations have been completed we do puja. Then, we go upstairs to light some Air Lamps in the air. We all enjoy ourselves and then dine together.
