The forces that are driving this possibility are many. Among these forces are the threats to human survival such as possible nuclear wars, environmental disasters and overpopulation.
Environmental disasters such as the global warming has been a constant threat to the protective ozone and the increase in the number of earthquakes and volcano eruptions are huge threat to human existence. Increasing populations that cannot be supported by the ever depleting resources are some of the reasons why human beings can resort to looking for habitation elsewhere apart from earth.
Human beings are so curious and adventures, and this might also be a contributing factor that may lead man to occupy lands in outer space. The same adventures spirit that drove man to discover 'new' lands on earth, is the same spirit that can lead them to settle in outer space.
