Energy is proportional to the absolute temperature which is expressed in Kelvin. At 0K it has zero kinetic energy. Zero C is 273.15 K. Each step size is the same though.

So add 273 to 27 and you get 300°K as the temp of the gas.

So to double the energy you need to add 300K (or 300C) which is 600K or 327C.
